    McCain's Our Nominee

It's only 8:40, and 10% of the Missouri count is in, enough to say I don't think Romney is pulling off a Missouri win.  I voted for him, but I can't say that I'm that disappointed.

McCain's our nominee, as Huckabee isn't going to catch him, and he did so by winning NJ, DE, CT, NY, and NJ.  Brilliant.  The Republican nominee is going to be selected by states that haven't voted for a Republican candidate for President since 1988.  Which coincidentally, is back when John McCain could still be considered a conservative.

Regardless of who wins in the Obama/Clinton race, Republicans are going to lose badly in the electoral map, and with the House retirements, their only hope at preventing the Democrats from creating a nanny state and creating laws that silence the opposition will lie in the Senate.  We'd be better off with Palpatine.  At least he knew how to put together a winning coalition.

There's clearly a loss of leadership in the Republican party, and all we have to look forward to is the incompetence of the Democrats who will run the country.  The sad part is in 2004, we had 55 Republican senators, a working majority in the House, and the Presidency.  What did they accomplish?  Nothing lasting.

So now, conservatives will go back to work on their businesses, their families, and wait for someone who makes sense to come along to follow.  I imagine most of us will vote for McCain, simply because the War on Terror is real, but we won't give money or volunteer.

In the long run, I imagine we'll creep towards European-style socialism.  We'll get a bad healthcare system (yes, worse than the one we have now), higher taxes, more corrupt politicians (with less accountability), and the people will complain, but they'll have only themselves to blame.

I feel more in tune with Tacitus everyday.
