To Republicans In every state and in the federal government: You can't afford any more sex scandals. I don't know the specifics, but it's time to do a little house cleaning. Peter Kinder's chief of staff was just asked to resign after allegedly being caught in an internet sting operation attempting to give pornography to an underage girl.
One - if it's remotely true, prosecute the guy and lock him up. Two, how long has this been going on?
Kinder's press release says an internal review shows that the chief of staff wasn't using state resources at the time of the incident but that's not good enough. What I want is biblical anger and a press conference screaming about this guy, and an assurance that no one gave him any political cover. If it turns out that anyone in Kinder's office knew this guy was sleazy, he deserves to have his entire staff kicked out. I truly mean that.
Conservatives like myself believe that electing Democrats is a danger to the long-term health of our society, but I'll still take that over Republicans who are an immediate danger to our children.
The irony? The limited government message of conservatism helps prevent this kind of actions. Smaller federal, state, and local governments mean less money, less time, and less parasites on body public.
It's not a matter of covering it up or spinning the issue. It's time for a zero-tolerance policy for any of this in our public offices. UPDATE: I read through the statements of the prosecutor that were posted up at FiredUpMissouri, and they're shockingly graphic. The officer says Feltner thought he was 13 because of previous chats. Pretty clearly Feltner is trying to pick up a 13 year old girl.
Fry him. And Peter Kinder and Kenny Hulshof need to do more than claim this isn't their problem. This is the kind of situation where leadership means getting out in front of the news. It's not enough to cooperate. This man was involved in predatory behavior of a sexual nature. There is no room for this in any party I'm going to vote for. If Kinder and Hulshof can't condemn it, and condemn it fast, conservative voters will do what they did in 2006 in the national elections. Stay at home and sit on their hands. As well they should.
