Our favorite union member has decided that asking for money is the way to go when times are tough. Elston McCowan, SEIU Local 2000 Staff Member and alleged purple people beater, had an all hands on deck meeting at the Internationale CAMP building to ask for medical and legal expense donations. The meeting was announced on the StlCamp website.
Urgent meeting this Thursday to setup Committee to defend victims of
Missouri.Teaparty Thugs Below is an urgent message from Elston McCowan, SEIU union organizer,
Christian Minister, African American community activist, and former 2009
Gateway Green Party candidate for St.Louis Mayor.
McCowan and another SEIU organizer (Perry Molens) were attacked by right
wing extremist "Teaparty" thugs holding snake flags at a recent public town
hall meeting by Rep. Russ Carnahan in Melville, Missouri.
McCowan was pushed to the ground and suffered a dislocated shoulder . He
has medical expenses and both Percy, and 2 other pro-health care reform
activists may face great legal expenses.
THERE WILL BE A MEETING THIS THURSDAY AT 7PM AT THE C.A.M.P. Community
BUILDING IN SOUTH ST.LOUIS TO SET UP A BROAD UNITED FRONT DEFENSE COMMITTE
One, what a hilarious description of the events. Now they are saying both McCowan and Molens were attacked, and by multiple people. This is also a very interesting note, as it brings the total of people facing legal action to four from the three that were arrested on suspicion of assault. We know McCowan and Molens were arrested for suspicion of assault at the scene. We have video of Molens throwing Gladney to the ground in the aftermath. We know the as yet unnamed woman who was there was arrested for striking a Tea Party activist in the face (on camera and seen by the arresting officer). And we know there was a fourth person who was said to have run off, but who was not arrested that night. Has that fourth person been found and charged? This meeting request seems to suggest so.
Javonne Spitz and Brian Matthews were arrested for interfering with police. It is doubtful those charges were pressed, or if they did, it was more than a tiny misdemeanor. The same can be said for Jake Wagman of the Post Dispatch. That means a fourth, or seventh person, depending on how you are counting, is facing charges.
What is strange is how none of this information is yet public. The arrest itself is available by searching Forder street in August 2009 (look for the 6th). But the names of the final two assailants have not been released. We do know they face legal charges of third degree assault.
These are questions we need to know, and my concern is this information will be held until the public interest is gone, then quietly disposed of.
1) Why is none of this information yet public?
2) Who is paying the criminal defense attorney Paul D'Agrosa? Is it McCowan? Is it pro bono? Is Molens also a defendant represented by D'Agrosa? What about the other two? Is D'Agrosa defending four people, or do we have four lawyers?
3) What medical expenses are needed for McCowan? Considering his shoulder injury, has he filed for workman's compensation or disability from the union? In his interview with Don Fitz (now appearing at socialist publications all across the net), he says he went there as a member of the SEIU staff. Was if official, and if so, who made the decision to send McCowan and Molens to an event on Aging? And for what purpose were they there, wearing SEIU shirts? McCowan says he went because his father is aging. Was he there as an independent citizen, or as an SEIU employee?
4) Is SEIU Local 2000 taking responsibility for the incident, or is McCowan? Does the wearing of his purple shirt and his full time status mean anything?
5) An internal SEIU memo on the night of the incident stated that 7 Tea Party activists were arrested. That information was reported on Twitter by Tim Targaris , the new media guy for SEIU nationally. Who wrote that memo, and as it was clearly wrong, why was it not retracted? Why was a video put out of the aftermath claiming this video showed the entire event? Who put that video together, and on what information was it based? Who made the decision to place the video on the SEIU site, and use it to try and discredit Gladney's story, when the initial reports were wrong?
6) And does Paul D'Agrosa know his defendant is out there sharing stories on what happened on socialist websites? I'm no lawyer, but that sounds like a poor defense strategy.
You'd be surprised at how much information is available on online, but I want to know more. If you have any information on this story, there's a tip line for you to send information to. Send it to editor@24thstate.com

Seems Mr. McCowan has a lot of problems with money. Did you look on casenet? https://www.courts.mo.gov/casenet/cases/nameSearch.do
