I've recently begun to receive a lot of research from around the state from people who have asked me to look into various stories on the local and state level. Some of those folks are political operatives, and there's nothing wrong with that, but many of them are just average citizens who are doing their own work to help clean up government and hold our elected officials accountable.
I tell every person who calls or emails that I don't print stories or press releases, but they are welcome to send me documents, links, research, or their own take on things (editor@24thstate.com). If I can independently verify that information, I'll usually get around to printing it.
But I'm just one guy - although others occasionally post on this blog, the bulk of the research is mine, and the unexplored and unexplained stories are too much to digest. The perfect start for that is the AcornCarnahan.com documents the Missouri GOP has procured. Robin Carnahan claims she has no ties to ACORN, but her staff is riddled with these left-wing activists, and the connections between these groups and her office are there for anyone to expose.
Add in the willingness of the Governor's staff to lie to the press, the fight against documents being released, and throw in the leaks to FiredUp Missouri and you have a great pile to start with. So to help out, the St Louis Tea Party has decided to start throwing document parties. This plays to our strengths, works to increase fellowship, and is a fundamental principle of good government - keeping an eye on those who are elected to serve us.
These parties are closed to invitation only, but there will be a pretty broad invitation. Anyone interested in good governance who isn't a nutball is welcome to join us. In addition to scouring through research documents, we'll be teaching investigative techniques, Sunshine and FOIA requests, and information on how you can effect real change at the local level. We'll also be meeting a major goal of the Tea Parties nationally, which is to build fellowship among those who were previously non-political. Every generation must renew its commitment to self-governing, and in throwing document parties, we'll be playing to our strengths. Bill and Dana get a lot of requests to throw more protests, but those aren't weekly events. It gets old to take to the streets, and a lot of people (those with kids, the elderly, those with liberal bosses, and those who don't feel like tangling with SEIU street thugs) are looking for more to do to get involved. This is a major reason Gina Loudon's Buycott has been so successful. People want to get involved, but they want to do so in different ways. So while some groups continue to meet in public, I'll be leading a charge to get groups involved in the research to uncover corruption.
If you want to be involved, email me at editor@24thstate.com with the subject "Document Party," your name, and what part of St Louis you live in (City, South, West, North County, Jefferson, St Charles). If you're not in St Louis, I'll be happy to connect you, and share some of our results by email and video with you. We'll be starting these soon - and will either be doing it weekly or every other week, giving the maximum number of people the ability to contribute, to learn, and ultimately to make real change.
And if you're an elected official - the time to straigthen up and fly clean is now. If you think the Tea Parties were rough at the townhalls, wait until they show up at your city councils with documents of campaign donations, proof of corruption, and copies of Roberts Rules of Order.
Update: Welcome Instapundit and Glenn Beck readers. Thank you for all of your kind words and emails. While we'll be focusing our attention mainly on St Louis and Missouri politicians, we will also document and share the information on how this works as best we can. The information isn't proprietary or all that hard to learn - mostly it just takes time, dedication, and the decision to make it important. If you would like to get on a mailing list for the document parties and are not in Missouri, please add your state to the subject and I'll create a list and see if we can't help organize you.
And on a personal note, may I just say, thank you. Thank you for standing up and asking what you can do to help. It is said that every people get the government they deserve. If your emails are any indication, our government at all levels is going to get a lot better.

way to go, tea parties.

I believe the corruption goes very deep. They have been planning this a long time and since the other side had dirty laundry of its own, they were not being the watchdog that they should be. The media we can count as part of the problem. They spent years pounding the its all Bush's fault till it became all they said. They never looked at the moot in the other persons eye who was slinging the mud. For years we have needed honest governance...I guess we need to look to ourselves since no one will do it.

Never in my lifetime have I seen this level of commitment from those of the "conservatarian" mindset. We've generally been non-active in these endeavors--until now. A walk in the forest of socialism and the easy-to-spot destruction of our nation and those things we hold most dear has brought us into the fray in a big way, and the corrupt politicians (or those who hold the fundamentally corrupt ideology of "progressivism") should be very, very afraid.
Keep up the good work, Tea Partiers...and go get 'em in St. Louis!

I am a 'baby boomer' and a little over a year from retirement, never before politically active, but I don't like the direction current leadership is taking this country. I therefore joined TEA Party planners for my local area and plan to be active until the Progressive elected officials are out of office.
Too many Senators and Representatives, not to mention the President, seem to have forgotten their oath of office to protect and preserve the Constitution, preferring instead to pad their own pockets and disregard their constituents. Given that Obama taught constitutional law, he knows perfectly well what he has supported that is unconstitutional. Most Democrats are too far left, and so are many Republicans! These officials need to be defeated in upcoming elections to get America back on track according to the Constitution. The Constitution is not outdated. It has provided the US with the longest continuous-operating government in the history of the world--more than 200 years.
Obama plans to go to Copenhagen in December 2009 to sign a global treaty which, if ratified by Congress, will wipe out our rights under the Constitution. Instead of just 'sharing the wealth' with those in our country, we will be forced to share our country's wealth with (and support) third-world countries. Watch Fox News' Glenn Beck on Friday, Oct. 10, 2009.

BTW, Veronica, the Iraq campaign was necessary and very successful. Iraq is now uncertain who will win the national election in January, and who the Prime Minister and President will be. As one Iraqi challenged a Western reporter/analyst (David Ignatius): "Name another Arab country you can say that about!"
If you're not bright enough to understand the point, get a smarter friend to 'splain it to you.

A Congressman was recently asked where in the Constitution the Federal Government was authorized and empowered to impose Health Insurance on the country. He said, "Oh, most of what we do here isn't permitted by the Constitution."
Really.
