The downturn in the economy and the increasingly difficult economic structure of local newspapers has hit no one harder than FiredUp Missouri.
Once the proud rumor site of connected Missouri Democrats who considered themselves above the law, the Carnahan family weblog is now reduced to publishing the content of Carnahan and their allies directly to the site.
FiredUp used to bully reporters, writing stories critical of those journalists who didn't publish the official spin of the Missouri Democratic Party quickly enough. The reporters knew this was happening, but what can you do when Roy Temple runs the site? He had scoop - and they wanted scoop.
As FiredUp moved to a pay per post model, funded by unpublished donors from the progressive left, Sean Soendker Nicholson found himself with no heft in the newspaper business. No one is afraid of a cut and paste liberal blog aggregator.
The Missouri Democratic Party, along with the Carnahan for Senate campaign and the New York financed campaign of Tommy Sowers now has a new way to push out their spin. In a new feature on FiredUp, press releases from groups friendly to Carnahan and campaigns deemed non-threatening are given their own publishing platform. Note that many prominent Missouri Democrats, and none of the state reps or senators are getting published. Just friends of Robin (I guess that explains why ol Russ can't get his name up in lights).
Ryan Hobart is the new director of the Missouri Democratic Party. He comes from Robin Carnahan's Secretary of State office. How exactly is publishing his press releases not a clear line from FiredUp to the Missouri Democratic Party? Eventually, some Republicans are going to wise up and start filing complaints against these jokers. In the meantime, we can only bask in the wonder of a new media program in complete shambles.
